Sourav bhai, I am downloading few books from the internet. If everything goes well, I should be able to share that file with you in 12 hours time. If you are already my friend in facebook, you can send me a personal message so that I can send you the those files.(If you are not, then you can find me in (about–answerteam–bibek raut facebook link of this website.) For online resource, I do not remember following any specific website. All I did then was to go in google and  type things like ” listening practice for toefl ibt” and stuffs.

For now you should not worry about finding one perfect website for the preparation, just grab whatever good information and practice exercise you can find in many of these websites.

I would like to answer the first part of your question , “How can I prepare for TOEFL on my own?”

First of all, I suggest that you get a book first. There are many books you can download from torrent or similar sites for free. Some of your friends might also have a collection of these book. Back in high school, I also had many, but those eBooks were less effective; I prefer a paper copy.

For your preparation I think the most effective way is to solve a complete set of past papers. Begin by solving 1-2 complete sets section by section. This will give you a clear idea of the type of questions they ask in TOEFL. You will also learn about the pattern of the questions. After completing these two sets you should be able to figure out your strong and weak areas. Spend more time on your weaker areas. For instance, if you found answering speaking section difficult, make it a habit to speak to yourself in a random topic (or topic from TOEFL book) for 5 minutes. Personally, speaking section was the most difficult for me. There’s hardly any time to think (may be like 15 seconds). What I realized was I could think what I wanted to speak, but when it came to actually opening my mouth, things would go weird.

After you feel that you are more confident than before, try more sets of papers. Make sure to do an entire set in one sitting as if you are taking the real exam. You might be tempted to avoid the essay section since there’s no answer to check, but I strongly recommend you do that too. For listening and speaking, practice it from the CD/DVD that comes along with the book, or may be download it from internet. This gives you a much more realistic evaluation of your progress. After that again see which areas you have improved and which areas you need to focus. Repeat this procedure again. You might feel like you are making a robot of yourself, but believe me you will be able to gain a lot in less time if you follow this technique.

Best of luck 🙂

Cheers!
