In the grades section of common app, we are asked to fill our cumulative GPA and class rank. For +2 students, do we enter the aggregate score or the score of our final year. And do we put the rank of our final year or our rank according to our aggregate scores?

Hi Anonymous (aug 8)

I don’t know the number of courses you took in HSEB. I took four different courses (a.k.a. subjects) in my A-Levels so I put in 4. So write in the number of courses you took for your HSEB.

What is senior secondary level examination? Will be 4 for all HSEB students also?

Hi,

I joined CommonApp to understand what you could do. I remembered that. I did not fill in the GPA section, but put in my scores in a different section. Look at the pictures I attached for clarification. I put in my scores as GCE Alevels, you can choose the “Other” option ans you took HSEB exams. You will see that I fill in for each subject in a new section. I hope this helps! About the semester/trimester situation, how many times did you have “exam time” when you were in Grade 11? If two, write in semester, if three then trimester. I am asking for 11th grade exams because I know when you’re in grade 12 you have all kinds of mock exams and stuff.

Vipasana didi there is no option to insert scores in updated CommonApp. These are the following options under grade section:

  1. Class Rank Reporting (The drop-down has options: exact, decile, quantile, quartile, none) I believe the rank is “exact” in our case.
  2. Graduation class size
  3.  GPA ( I have no idea what to insert here)
  4.  GPA scaling ( No idea)
  5.  GPA weighting ( No idea)

My college is typical +2 college in Kathamndu, dashian tihar ma chutti hune aru bela lagne LOL, so I am confused if that’s- semester, trimester or quartile.

I do not have guardian counselor or someone who has the experience of handling the job of counselor in CommonAPP, so please shed some light on this matter too along with the solution of above problem.

From what I remember, when I was applying for colleges, there was an option to put in my scores instead of my GPA. Do you think it might be there and you’re yet to explore that?

And yes, you can mention the computer class taht you took in 11, but not in 12.

Fo the class rank, you’re supposed to fill in whatever is in your transcript. I am guessing the part oabout class size and class rank means it is asking for your class size and you rank among your batch, not just the classroom. But check you transcript of the rank mentioned there is for the entire batch.

I don’t know what school you’re from so I can’t tell if your school has semester, trimester or quarter – sorry!
It’d be a good thing if you filled in all sections with clarity and honesty. It’ll be perfect itself if you focus on those two details.

I am completely blank about the “Grade” section in CommonApp. I am an HSEB student, so what should I do with GPA? And with class size and class rank does it mean the total students in the batch or just in the classroom?
Also regarding courses, I had taken Computer in 11 but not in 12, so can I mention all the subjects that I took in +2?And what is our course scheduuling sysytem- smeseter, trimester or quarter? And do we have to perfectly fill all the sections in COmmonapp?

I suggest you to talk to your guidance counselor. Since you both are going to answer the same questions, you want the answers to be matching.
