My scores upto class X are excellent, and my scores in internal exam of high school are not bad either, but my HSEB percentage is below 70%. I have always been top 10% in my class of 700 students in high school during my college exams. I have good score in the subject that I want to major in, in both HSEB and internal. I have 1350 in SAT and 96 in TOEFL. I suck big time in physics and chemistry, so definetly not taking SAT II. My achievements outside the classroom are really good, and I expect to get good recommemdation letters from my teachers and counselor. How are my chances to get into colleges whose acceptance rate is around 50% and have SAT requirement lower than my score?
I think that the purpose of your question is not to actually get a legitimate answer, but rather to have someone tell you that you are a good candidate. You want to be consoled that you stand a good chance and this is a way to calm your insecurities.
Case in point:
“My scores upto class X are excellent, and my scores in internal exam of high school are not bad either…I have always been top 10% …I have good score in the subject that I want to major in… 1350 in SAT and 96 in TOEFL…My achievements outside the classroom are really good… good recommemdation letters…colleges whose acceptance rate is around 50% and have SAT requirement lower than my score?”
You cannot possibly expect a good answer with all of this vague stuff. How do you know your recommendation letters are good? Are you sure you know what a good recommendation letter constitutes of? are among a hundred other questions that come to mind. The truth is no one can tell you how good of a chance you stand without access to such important parts of your application. I would recommend you to think about how good of an answer you think you will get on these chance-me s and question the motivations behind you posting this question.
Your SAT score is solid.
Also, I would also recommend to not digress from your essay flow just for the sake of explaining some shortcoming. It is best if the essay has a coherent flow to it than trying to squeeze in unrelated things in between.
I hope that helps, and I wish you all the best!
That was very helpful. How can we mention about our low percentage in essay? None of the six questions ask about that. Will it be okay if we include few disgressions on our essay?
Your stats looks good. You can always mention about your low percentage in your essays and recommendations. The 50 percent you mentioned is for their total acceptance rate. The acceptance rate for international student who needs huge financial support will be in single digits. Moreover, it depends upon the financial aid policy of the university and how much they can afford. Therefore, they will not just accept you because you are a good student, they will only accept if they think that you can contribute to the community and you are worth getting 30-60 thousand dollars financial aid per year. That’s a lot of money and you really need to show them that you are worth it. Focus on your leadership opportunities and what you can contribute as a student to the college there such as being part of the various clubs of the college.
